FREEDOM FOR TIBET
OLYPIC TORCH – SYMBOL OF PEACE
Vilnius April 30, 2008
Yet for almost half a century Tibet is under China
occupation. During this time directly or indirectly more than one third of
Tibetans have become victims of China’s occupation: for the slightest
disobedience for the occupation authorities people are being killed or
imprisoned; there are no freedom of speech, media and religion; women are
being sterilized, children have no possibility to study in their native
language. By such actions the Government of People Republic of China (PRC)
are denying its own declarations about respect to democratic values, ideals
of freedom and democracy. Country, in which human and nations rights are
being violated in the most brutal way and peaceful protesters are being
killed is not worth o organize Olympic Games which are based on the
principles of peace and brotherhood.
With great concern and awareness the world community is
following what is going on in Tibet and PRC. August 9, 2007 Olympic Human
Rights Torch was inaugurated in Athens. Till the opening of the Olympics the
Torch will visit 150 cities in all the five continents (see
www.humanrightstorch.org,
www.cipfg.org). September 24 great number
of Vilnius citizens took part in the Human Rights Torch procession, meeting
in the Cathedral Square and high Mass in the arch-cathedral basilica. The
participants adopted resolutions condemning massacre in Tibet and China and
urged sportsmen to refuse their participation in the Olympics if China will
not ensure freedom for Tibet.
We appeal to all good will people who are concerned in
freedom, peace and justice to support peaceful Tibet nation’s striving for
realization of its inherent right of self-determination and to condemn
illegal and criminal Communist Party’s of PRC and Government’s actions in
Tibet.
We urge Parliaments and Governments all over the world to confirm their
commitment for freedom, democracy and human as well as nations rights and to
refuse sending their sportsmen to the Olympics in Bejing and officially
adress the PRC leadership about what is going on in Tibet. We suggest to
withdraw condition for possibility to attend the Olympics – to demand from
the leadership of PRC to arrange direct a highest level meeting between His
Holiness the Dalai Lama and the PRC president Hu Jin Tao to discuss the
issue of Tibet Independence and future without any preconditions.
THE SPORTSMEN of the world – You are ambassadors of
Peace and Democracy! We urge you to BOYCOTT THE OLYMPIC GAMES IN CHINA in
case PRC will proceed violating principles of democracy and will refuse to
bear commitment to ensure Tibet Independence.
We apply to the United Nations asking to intermediate in order Tibet nation
might freely realize its inherent right for self-determination.
